Tourist traffic from India to Japan is on the rise as it witnessed an increase of 14% in 2019 with 2020 drawing almost blank because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the year 2019, 1.8 lakh Indians traveled to Japan, which was 14% higher than the number of tourists from India who visited Japan in the previous year 2018.

Koji Sato, Director General, Japan Foundation in New Delhi

This was revealed by Yasuke Yamamoto, Executive Director, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), New Delhi office in his address during Namaste Japan Fest 2021 on March 20. The event was streamed live from Fukuoka.

He was all praised for the Namaste Japan Fest and said that such events helped in increasing tourist traffic to Japan.

Japan has an overall target of attracting 6 crore tourists from across the world by 2030, and Tokyo Olympics were supposed to get the major chunk of it, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, achieving the target seems a bit difficult.
